Chongqing Stop: Our team arrived at Chongqing in the early morning on June 17th and started 3-day BoundlessArt public tour.
重庆燥热的天气丝毫没有影响大家的热情,19日早,小组抵达綦江特殊教育学校,在那里,我们遇到了一群可爱的孩子。
Hot and dry weather in Chongqing didn’t dampen the enthusiasm of children. On the morning of 19th, the team visited Qijiang Special Education School and met cute children.
与沈阳和北京的智力障碍孩子不同,此行在重庆我们见到的大多为听障儿童。于中午抵达綦江图书教育学校,小组成员先做了些前期的准备工作,随后与老师到学校食堂用餐。午饭后与孩子开始互动。
Children here mostly were hearing-impaired different from mentally handicapped children in Shenyang and Beijing. We arrived at noon and did preparations before eating meals in school’s canteen with teachers. After lunch, the event started.
走进美术室,在与孩子们见面前志愿者们已被教室里陈列的学生作品所惊艳,看到五彩斑斓的艺术作品,志愿者们更加坚定了用艺术改变孩子们生活的信念。
Walking into art rooms, volunteers were already amazed by students’ works displayed there. Volunteers held the firm belief that they can change children’s life through art when seeing these colorful works

由于大家多为听障儿童,学校为我们安排了手语老师做翻译。进到教室之后,我们从孩子的眼里看到了对未知活动的好奇与期待。
The school arranged sign language teachers to interpret for these children. When we arrived in class, we can see curiosity and expectations for unknown events from their eyes.
在介绍了此次活动的目的及意义后。志愿者们开始为大家讲解第一种艺术形式---为泥塑上色。
First, we told them goals and significance of this event. Then volunteers described the first art form---color clay sculptures.
在沈阳和北京,小朋友们用黏土捏出了许多可爱的小动物和精美的印花餐具,风干之后泥塑变硬,我们就让重庆站的小朋友为泥塑画上不同的颜色。原本泥塑是白色的,仿佛一个单调而枯燥的世界;然而,当泥塑有了不同颜色以后,不再是单一的白色:不同的泥塑覆盖上五颜六色的花纹,仿佛是小朋友们从活动中得到的欢乐。大家充分发挥了自己的想象力,有画小花瓣的同学,还有画渐变色花纹的同学。在特殊艺术家们的妙笔之下,一个个生动的作品呈现在志愿者们眼前。
In Shenyang and Beijing, children made a lot of cute animals and exquisite flower dinnerware, so children in Chongqing painted with different colors. Originally, clay sculptures were all white like a dull and boring world; However, clay sculptures with different colors represented pleasure that children get from this event. Children gave full play to their imagination, some drew small petals, others drew in gradient colors. One and another lively artwork appeared in sight of volunteers owning to special artists.

随后志愿者Echo又教了大家一种能在上完色的泥塑表面制作出星空效果的方式---把画刷蘸上白色,用手指拨弄画笔,就会有白色的颜料呈小点状散落到泥塑上。很多有创意的小朋友用这种艺术形式为自己画的泥塑添上了点睛的一笔。
Next volunteer Echo taught children a way to create stars effects on the painted clay sculptures---paintbrush dipped into white and used hands to fiddle paintbrush, then white pigment scattered in small dots to clay sculptures. Many creative children added highlights in this art form.

像在北京一样,之后志愿者们与大家进行了吹泡泡的互动。我们邀请了不同年龄段的孩子参加,也邀请了另一个自闭班的小朋友一同参加。
吹泡泡会提升大家的团队合作意识,因为“用画纸在空中接到另一位小朋友吹出的泡泡”需要两位同学及其紧密地配合。不但如此,在互动中,大家也能找到许多欢乐。
Like in Beijing, volunteers blew bubbles to interact with children. We invited children of different ages and from Autistic class to join us.
Blowing bubbles can enhance sense of teamwork. A child blows bubbles and the other child used paper to catch bubbles. That really needs close cooperation of these two children. They can find a lot of enjoyment during the event.
进行完吹泡泡的活动后,活动迈入了高潮部分。
由于这是个听障班级,虽然有一些小朋友能听到甚至能讲出一些简单的话,但绝大多数小朋友是听不到任何声音的。在手语老师的翻译下,我们简单讲述了发声原理;声音是由震动发出,为了让大家感受声波的震动,志愿者们从音乐室拿来了鼓和三角铁,敲鼓的时候让小朋友们把手放到鼓面上,感受鼓面的震动,有的小朋友也跃跃欲试,自己拿起鼓槌敲鼓打打,非常有趣。
Now was climax. The students are hearing-impaired, so some can hear and speak simple words, but most of them can’t hear any sound. With interpretation of sign language teacher, we briefly told them vocalism principle, that is, vibrations cause sound. To let them feel vibrations of sound waves, volunteers brought drums and triangles from music rooms. Children put their hands on the drums and felt waves of them. Even some of them were eager to try, used drumstick beat the drum. How interesting!
在画完背景后,为了让听障的孩子们“感受”到声音,志愿者们进行了一项有趣的互动,志愿者们邀请小朋友们触摸音响,感觉震动。他们会将“声音”结合到他们的作品中:每人写下一个对他们很重要的词(可以是他们或是爸爸妈妈的名字)以及一些鼓励的话语等,而后我们帮他们念出来,录音,并给他们看形成的音轨图像。
之后,请他们将图像的线条画在粘土上。这样听障孩子们也能体验到“声音”的概念,并以此创造艺术。在具体的实施过程当中,大家把自己的名字,或者想说的一句话写到纸上,让志愿者们用手机为大家录音(志愿者为大家读出来,或者会读的小朋友自己读出来)。录音时,声音的震动会以高低不同的波呈现在手机屏幕上,小朋友可以选其中一小段波动画到自己之前上色的泥塑上。
After drawing, volunteers invited children touch audio and feel sound waves in order to let them sense sounds. Children would incorporate “sounds” into their works: Each of them wrote down a word that meant a lot to them (It can be his or her name or their parents’ name.) or many encouraging words. Then we helped them read aloud and recorded and showed them the finished soundtrack images.
After that, they drew lines of images on the clay so that hearing-impaired children can also experience “sounds” and create art. They wrote down their names and some words on the paper and volunteers recorded by phone (volunteers read them or children themselves). When recording, vibrations of sounds will be shown in different waves on the screen. Children can draw a part of wave images on the painted clay sculptures.

很多小朋友拿起笔簌簌的在纸上写了起来,还有一些小朋友用了些许时间构思。志愿者凑到前面一看,发现大家都写下了很美好的话语;有写“我爱我的弟弟”的,有写“美国大学(生)教我们画画,很开心”的,还有写“我们都很幸福”的。有一位小朋友和我们的志愿者用“传纸条”的方式聊起了天。小朋友询问了志愿者的名字,也了解到了她在美国的学习经历。这位小朋友很好奇志愿者在美国的学习生活,也想简单学习两句英语,志愿者给小朋友取了一个英文名John,并逐个发音地教他读了出来。在看到小朋友脸上的笑容时,也是志愿者们最快乐的时候。
Many children quickly wrote on the paper, while some of them took time to jot down. Volunteers surprisingly found that they all wrote good things, for example, “I like my brother,” “American university students taught us painting, and we were happy” “We are blessed.” One kid chatted with us by passing notes. He asked volunteer’s name and knew about her learning experiences in America. He was curious about volunteer’s life in America and also wanted to pick up a few words of English. The volunteer gave him an English name John and taught him read it word by word. On seeing children’ smiles, it was the happiest moment for them to serve as volunteers.

重庆站中最有意义的就是这个非常有仪式感的绘画声波的活动;由于经济或者技术条件的限制,虽然孩子们可能并不能真的在短时间内用声带发出声音;但是志愿者们希望能通过这种象征意义极强的方式,向孩子们传达一个信息:虽然身体上的限制可能会带来无法言说的不便,但是,沉默不代表无能或无力回应,恰恰相反,有力的声音都在心中,只要他们信心充足,信念坚定,心中的不灭音符就会支撑他们朝着更美的朝阳进发。声弦可被夺,心弦不能灭!
The most interesting thing in Chongqing stop is drawing sound waves. Because of limitations of economy and technology, it is hard for them to let out sounds with vocal cords in short period of time. However, volunteers expected to convey children the message that physical restrictions may bring some unspoken inconveniences but silence didn’t mean incompetence or incapability to respond. On the contrary, powerful voices are in hearts. As long as they have enough confidence and firm belief, their inner sounds support them towards to better effulgent sun. Sounds can be deprived, but voices in your heart will not be drowned out.
