The Autistic confine themselves to their little world, while put plastic animals into socks.

BoundlessArt visited Shenyang Premier Foundation for helping the disabled, and had artistic teaching and interactions with Autistic and polio children. Studies show that the combination of two senses (for example, visual sense and tactile sense) can better help autistic children connect with the world when they are taught to create artworks. We can teach them how to make things by clay, and help them deeply feel the shape and texture. After the lessons, students are expected to willingly donate their artworks to project team. We will display and auction off these in social media at the end of teaching agenda and proceeds will be used to improve special artists situations, thus draw public attention to special people.

The first stop is Shenyang, capital of Liaoning province. Through connections with Kevin, team leader of volunteers for Shenyang Premier Foundation for helping the disabled, we knew a group of special artists. Wearing adults’ look, but they always think like children with childlike innocence. Although intellectually disabled, they can also create lovely things.

We have prepared some plastic animals, socks and clay. First, volunteers explained fairy tale of Western Christmas that Santa Claus drives elks and comes down the chimney the night before Christmas to fill in Christmas Sock with presents, then told children to open socks as bonuses at last. We gave out stockings full of plastic animals to children. Children (children with Autistic and mental disorder can express same oral and interaction abilities likes ordinary children regardless of their age) touched and guessed what animals in their socks, played their imagination and creativity. After telling them how to make it, we encouraged them to shape animals by clay with their own imagination based on touch experiences.

Children like these novel art forms and immense themselves in that. Some of them had no clue about art at the beginning and created many interesting and lovely clay sculptures afterwards by inquiring us. In the process of creating, they harvested happiness and we collected their works.

Next was watercolor. Children were given a theme and paint people, things and places that can make them happy. They recalled beautiful memories and briefly explained why paint like that.

We made a summary when the event was over. It was encouraging to see all of them involved in it and got lots of pleasure from it, also knew about a new art form.

In order to expand impact of the program, we will teach and publicize these methods in different cities throughout China. Communications between volunteers and special children are recorded in videos and words. Hopefully bring the awareness to the society that these children can create wonderful art and further let all humans be equally entitled to realize their art dreams.
